Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Dubuque has created a valuable resource - a virtual toolkit - to help educate immigrants/refugees and the general community. The Know Your Rights (KYR) and Safety Planning Toolkit is available by CLICKING HERE.
The information is intended to educate or increase awareness of general principles in law and how the law protects your rights when interacting with police or immigration authorities. It is not intended to replace the need to seek legal advice from an immigration attorney or DOJ accredited representative.
Feel free to share this resource in your parish, with immigrants and community networks.
The Office of Multicultural Ministries celebrates the diversity throughout the parishes in our 24 counties of northwest Iowa. Our parishioners come from countries around the world and speak languages including English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Lao, Arabic, Chuuk, Ponpeiian and many more. Many of our parishes offer Masses in Spanish for our growing Hispanic population. Nearly 25% of Catholics in the diocese attend Mass celebrated in Spanish. The Cathedral Parish in Sioux City also offers Sunday and holy day Masses in Vietnamese at St. Joseph Church. Storm Lake St. Mary Parish offers monthly Vietnamese Masses. At times, we are able to offer Masses in Micronesian languages, Lao and other languages.
This office strives to serve to coordinate services and ministry for the faithful of all backgrounds and ethnicities in conjunction with our parishes. We provide multilingual documents and communication to best reach our diverse parishes. We partner with the annual Charismatic Congress in Sioux City and partner with Catholic Charities to offer the Welcome program with professional immigration law, case management and mental health services.
